Telling Friends & Family

This is an odd post.  But I'm wondering when should we tell friends and family that we're building a home?  I don't want to seem like we're bragging, because we're not.  We're just so very excited for our family!  This will be our first home we own.  This will be the first home we're building.  This will be our long dreamt and talked about home.

I would hate to seem unappreciative or inconsiderate.  I know that we are very thankful and this entire process we've had our fingers crossed and have only told those who very obviously would figure it out given overheard conversations with SR or LO or Guardian or RR.  We had decided for sure that we would not tell anyone else until we got a final loan approval but it appears that nothing is really final until you close or maybe I am misunderstanding.  Also, our LO doesn't seem to think there's anything to worry about.  I'm kind of torn.

  1. It's a very exciting time. I would tell your family once you have loan approval. Happy Building!!

  2. I'm sure they will all be happy for you. I agree and would wait until you hear back you have been approved.

  3. Everyone we know pretty much knew we were going to build, that has been the plan for the past year, we moved into a crappy cheap apt. so we could save every penny for the house. But, I didn't feel comfortable talking about it until we got our loan approval other than with my immediate family. My friends would ask how the build was going and how excited they were for us but I didn't want to jinx it! I was so afraid something would happen and we wouldn't get the loan but when your LO says you will be ok, they are spot on. Don't sweat it, but you also don't have to tell anyone yet if you feel awkward about it. I know I don't want to ask like we are bragging either, I'm just so excited! I try to keep the house talk to a minimum when we are out with friends, they ask about it a lot but I don't want to gush over it like a newborn baby, lol, that's what the blog is for! It helps us release our excitement to people that are in the same boat! Happy building!

  4. We waited until we got our loan approval (nothing official yet, but we made last minute changes affecting the final sale price).
