Half Walls VS Pine Stair W/ Oak Handrail, Wrought Iron/White Balusters Decisions, Decisions! Help!

I immediately leaned in the direction of the Oak Handrail with Wrought Iron Balusters - but do we really need it?  $2k for some iron balusters versus $1k for wood?  Or I could just go with none and pay $0. These kinds of decisions are killing me!

  1. Just found your blog! In my opinion the balusters with handrail are key. We chose to go with white but the metal are nice too, and I think people are 50/50 split there. I wouldn't go with the capped wall. It makes everything look more closed off.

    1. Welcome to my blog! I think I agree with you. I need to stick to my first initial gut feeling. The capped wall takes away from the "loft" feeling. I know for sure that going with the white balusters will be the most budget friendly compromise. I found a fellow blogger who upgraded her white to the black for $200. Compared to the $1k increase from RH that's a huge saving!

  2. We went with the capped wall because we are using the loft as a gym and I didn't really want to be able to see down the stairs while I was on the elliptical or running on the treadmill. I LOVE the wrought iron balusters, but I'm not a huge fan of the white balusters.

    1. I'm not a big fan of the white either, but for about 100 bucks I can upgrade them myself later! I wonder if the half wall is a kind of sound barrier too?

  3. I went with the half wall because of my floor plan. It's only a hallway. It doesn't look into any room (therefore I didn't care about this upgrade at all). Plus I have small child and plan on having one more. Therefore, the idea of them throwing there toys down the stairs is NOT appealing!

    1. Oh, I agree. If my kids were younger I may have gone with the wall! lol

  4. I went with handrail and white. The wall seems too closed off for me. AND I needed to make sure we had the hardwood stairs because trying to vaccuumed carpet up the stairs in my old house was one if the biggest annoyances.

  5. We originally selected the metal balusters but that was one of the first things to go when other upgrades came along. However we did stick with the oak/white balusters. Not a fan of the capped wall as it closes off everything upstairs and even though we don't have a grand staircase like some other models do, it still will look nice from the great room to see the oak handrails going upstairs.

    1. Yup, our metal balusters went as soon as I decided I wanted them - LOL. I found a fellow blogger who upgraded her own for $200, I will be doing is asap!

  6. We selected (are selecting) the Handrail with white balusters for our Ravenna. We were trying to save money with the half wall, but after seeing it in several models we did not like it. It closed off the space too much. The balusters let a lot of light through and make the whole area seem bigger.
